LPT: Listen to audiobooks, podcasts, and lectures twice as fast

by faitswulff via www.reddit.com

Audio: Reencode with Audacity using Effect -> Change Tempo (If you use Change Speed, you'll be listening to a chipmunk version) and input how much faster by percent you would like it to play. Then File -> Export... to your preferred format.

Video: Watch with VLC Player and tap the play speed buttons.

I'm sure there are other ways to do this, but these are the ones I use. I'm so comfortable with listening to TED talks at 2x speed that I don't even realize how fast they're talking anymore. The biggest gains are in long videos. I download them and watch in VLC at 2x, and suddenly an hour long video is just half an hour. Captions help if the speaker talks particularly quickly.
